Tar Heels Quiet Golden Hurricane
September 7, 2015 | Men's Soccer
CHAPEL HILL—No. 4 North Carolina calmed the tempest of the Tulsa Golden Hurricane 2-1 in the driving rain Sunday night at Fetzer Field
With the Tar Heels controlling the ball for much of the first half, David October delivered a quick pass to Jordan McCrary in the box. A touch from Alan Winn connected with Zach Wright to give Carolina the advantage in the match in the 12th minute of play.
In the remaining five minutes of the first half, Tucker Hume received a pass from Nico Melo and propelled the ball over goalie Jake McGuire to push the Tar Heels up 2-0.
The Golden Hurricane was quick to answer, with Zach Jackson taking the shot on a pass from Kay Duit to cut the Tar Heel lead in half in the 42nd minute. The goal was the first for Jackson on the season and Euler's first allowed of the season. The redshirt senior goalie made his first appearance of the season Friday after James Pyle was injured in a collision.
A quickened pace dominated the second half, with Tulsa earning quality looks at tying the score, but the squad could not find the equalizer.
The Tar Heels will travel to Virginia Tech to take on the Hokies in the conference opener Friday at 7:00 pm.
