Tar Heels Climb To No. 1 In Coaches' Poll

Tar Heel Poll Notes
• Ranked No. 2/2 last week, North Carolina (18-2, 7-0 ACC) stayed No. 2 in the Associated Press poll and jumped one spot to No. 1 in the ESPN/USA Today coaches' poll released on Monday Jan. 25.
• Oklahoma was No. 1 in both polls last week and kept the top spot in the AP poll despite a loss.
• UNC returns to the top spot in the coaches' poll after spending the first two weeks of season ranked No. 1 in both polls.
• The Tar Heels received 29 first-place votes in the AP poll to Oklahoma's 36. The Sooners had 1,592 total points in the voting to Carolina's 1,586.
• In the coaches' poll, the Tar Heels got 23 of 32 first-place votes. Oklahoma got the other nine.
• Carolina has won 11 games in a row and went 2-0 last week with a home win over Wake Forest and a road victory at Virginia Tech.
• UNC has been in the top 10 of both polls for 11 of 12 weeks during the 2015-16 season, falling to No. 11 for a week after its loss at Texas on Dec. 12.
• The Tar Heels began the 2015-16 season atop both polls, holding the AP's top spot outright and sharing the No. 1 ranking in the coaches poll with Kentucky. UNC started the season in the AP top 10 for the 10th time in 13 seasons under head coach Roy Williams.
• Carolina is ranked in the AP poll for the 35th week in a row.

• This week, the Tar Heels will host Boston College on Saturday, then play three consecutive road games at Louisville, at Notre Dame and Boston College.

• There are six Atlantic Coast Conference teams ranked in this week's AP poll, including three in the top 15. Carolina is No. 2, Virginia is No. 11 and Miami is No. 15. Louisville is No. 16, Duke is No. 24 and Notre Dame is No. 25.

• Carolina has been ranked in 851 AP polls, more than any school in the nation.
• The Tar Heels have been ranked in the AP Top 10 637 times, most in ACC history and second-most all-time behind Kentucky.
• The Tar Heels have achieved a Top 10 ranking in the AP poll in 53 of the poll's 67 seasons, including 47 of the last 50. Carolina has finished in the AP Top 10 34 times, including 23 of the last 35 years.
