The Tar Heels lead six programs from the Atlantic Coast Conference ranked in the top 25: Carolina (T4), Virginia (7), Miami (13), Duke (16), Clemson (20) and Georgia Tech (23).
Winners of the 2015 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship in the fall, senior Whitney Kay and junior Hayley Carter are ranked No. 2 in doubles entering the spring semester.
The dynamic duo recorded a 9-2 record in the fall, and defeated the top-ranked tandem from Kentucky - Aldila Sutjiadi and Mami Adachi - in the national indoor final in November.
Senior Kate Vialle and freshman Jessie Aney are 16th in the rankings after a solid fall season. They also went 9-2 and won the ITA Carolinas Regional title to join Kay and Carter in the field for the national indoor championship in New York City.
In singles, Carter is sixth to lead a group of five Tar Heels ranked by the ITA. She was 12-2 in the fall and that included two victories over the now No. 1-rated Joana Eidukonyte of Clemson.
Aney check in 68th, followed by Kay (88th), sophomore Cassandra Vazquez (94th) and freshman Chloe Ouellet-Pizer (112th).
North Carolina opens the spring dual match season on Sunday with a doubleheader at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The Tar Heels will face Elon at 1 p.m., followed by Appalachian State at 5 p.m.
