Melo Hits Volley Winner For #4 Carolina
October 5, 2016 | Men's Soccer
The Tar Heels broke through with the first and ultimately only goal of the match in the 68th minute. The ever dangerous Zach Wright tip-toed his way through the UNCW goal area and unleashed a shot that was saved by the keeper. The clearing attempt by the Seahawk defender was volleyed by Melo into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
James Pyle earned his third-straight shutout and the seventh of the season for the reigning ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week.
Carolina (8-1-1) has run its scoreless streak to 359 minutes, 58 seconds, last conceding in the first half of the 4-1 win at William & Mary on Sept. 20.
UNCW falls to 6-2-1 on the year.
North Carolina hosts ACC rival Virginia on Friday at 7 p.m.
