• Carolina is now 30-6 overall this season and 114-44 all-time in NCAA Tournament play.
• The Tar Heels are 52-10 as a No. 1 seed, 33-1 in NCAA Tournament games in the state of North Carolina and 10-2 vs. No. 9 seeds.
• Carolina advances to its 33rd regional semifinal and 27th “Sweet 16” (officially designated since 1975).
• Carolina has won 29 consecutive NCAA Tournament games in the state of North Carolina.
• Head coach Roy Williams is second in all-time NCAA Tournament wins with 67. Duke's Mike Krzyzewski is first with 90.
• Williams is 67-23 in NCAA Tournament play, including 33-9 at Carolina.
• Williams is 780-208 in 28 seasons as a head coach. The 780 wins tie Lute Olson for the 10th-most Division I wins all-time.
• Williams has advanced to the Sweet 16 for the 17th time in 26 NCAA Tournament appearances, including eight times in 12 appearances at Carolina.
• Carolina has won 30 games for the 12th time, including six seasons under head coach Roy Williams. The Tar Heels won 30 or more games in 1946 under Ben Carnevale; 1957 under Frank McGuire; 1982, 1987 and 1993 under Dean Smith; 1998 under Bill Guthridge; and 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2016 under Roy Williams.
• This is Williams' 11th 30-win season (1990, 1997, 1998, 2002 and 2003 at Kansas and 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2016 at Carolina). He is second in NCAA history with 11 30-win seasons (Mike Krzyzewski is first with 14).
• Carolina shot 52.5 percent from the floor vs. the Friars. The Tar Heels are 19-1 this season when shooting at least 50 percent from the floor.
• Carolina shot 60.7 percent from the floor in the second half. That was the 21st time this season UNC shot at least 50 percent in the second half (UNC is 19-2 in those games) and the sixth time the Tar Heels have shot at least 60 percent in the second half (UNC is 6-0 in those games – UCLA, at Florida State, at Syracuse, home vs. Pitt, ACC Tournament vs. Pitt and vs. Providence).
• Carolina shot a season-best 90.5 percent from the free throw line (previous .895 vs. Northwestern).
• Carolina's free throw percentage of .905 is the third best in UNC's 158 NCAA Tournament games and the highest since the 2009 team set the record vs. Oklahoma in the South Regional Final (.938). The only other game with a higher percentage was in the 1977 East final vs. Kentucky (.917).
• Providence shot 40.4 percent from the floor. That's the 27th consecutive game the Tar Heels have held the opponents to under 45 percent shooting from the floor.
• Carolina had 20 fast break points vs. Providence and is 22-1 this year when it has at least 10 fast break points.
• Carolina had 40 fast break points in the two NCAA Tournament games (out-scored Florida Gulf Coast and Providence, 40-8, in fast break points).
• The Tar Heels have scored 20 or more fast break points three times this season (26 vs. Davidson on 12/6 and 20 in each of the last two games).
• The Tar Heels scored 46 points in the paint. UNC is now 22-1 this year when it scores 40 points in the paint.
• The Tar Heels are now 22-1 when scoring at least 80 points this year.
• Carolina had a 16-1 edge in second-chance points. The one second-chance point by Providence was a season-low for the opponents (previous three by Wofford). The Tar Heels are 24-1 this year when they have more second-chance points.
• Brice Johnson led five Tar Heels in double figures with 21 points. The Tar Heels are 14-1 this year when at least five players score in double figures.
• The Tar Heels scored 85 points, the 23rd time in 36 games this season UNC scored 80 or more points (22-1 when they score 80).
PLAYERS
• First-team All-America forward Brice Johnson led Carolina with 21 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. It was the 17th time he led UNC in scoring and the 26th time he led the Tar Heels in rebounds this year.
• Johnson has 1641 career points. He passed Jawad Williams (1626), Eric Montross (1627) and Kenny Smith (1636) to move into 20th place in UNC career scoring. He passed Mitch Kupchak (1611) and Hubert Davis (1615) during the win over Florida Gulf Coast.
• Johnson had his 21st double-double of the season (31 career). That ties the second-most double-doubles in Carolina single-season history with John Henson in 2011 and Antawn Jamison in 1998. Billy Cunningham had 22 in 1964.
• Johnson had his sixth 20-point/10-rebound game of the season.
• Johnson scored in double figures for the 33rd time this year.
• Johnson blocked two shots and moved into eighth place in UNC history with 157 blocks. He passed Danny Green (155) and Rasheed Wallace (156).
• Johnson has 377 rebounds this year. He passed John Henson (374 in 2011) for fifth place in UNC single-season history.
• Johnson needs just four rebounds to become the eighth Tar Heel with 1,000 career rebounds.
• The Providence game was the 144th game of Johnson's college career. He is third in UNC history behind Deon Thompson (152) and Danny Green (145).
• Marcus Paige hit two three-pointers vs. the Friars. He has a UNC-record 284 in his career.
• Paige played his sixth career game at PNC Arena (five wins). Paige was 20 of 39 (.513) from three-point range in PNC Arena.
• Paige had two steals vs. Providence to reach the 200 mark for his career. He is the third Tar Heel to have 200 in his career (Derrick Phelps 247, George Lynch 241).
• Paige is just the second ACC player with 1700 points, 500 assists, 350 rebounds, 275 three-pointers and 200 steals (Duke's Jason Williams is the only other player to reach those marks).
• Joel Berry scored in double figures (15) for the 31st time this year. UNC is 29-2 when he does.
• Isaiah Hicks scored in double figures (13) for the 19th time this year (fourth time in five post-season games).
• Justin Jackson scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half. He has scored 49 of his 55 points in the five ACC and NCAA Tournament games this year in the second half.
