No. 3 Carolina Opens Homestand With WCU

CHAPEL HILL --- No. 3 North Carolina begins a five-game homestand Tuesday when the Tar Heels host Western Carolina at 6 p.m. at Boshamer Stadium. Carolina is 17-2 after a 5-0 week that included a three-game sweep at Duke. Western Carolina is coming off a sweep of its own, as the Catamounts traveled to Kansas State and took three games from the Wildcats.

FRIDAY GAME VS. GEORGIA TECH MOVED UP TO 5 P.M.
• Friday's second game of the UNC-Georgia Tech series has been moved up to a 5 p.m. start in order to avoid a potential conflict with the start of the UNC-Indiana men's basketball game.
• The series is still scheduled to start Thursday at 6 p.m., with the finale set for Saturday at 2 p.m.
NORTH CAROLINA-WESTERN CAROLINA SERIES HISTORY
• North Carolina is 12-2 all-time against Western Carolina, including a 3-0 record under head coach Mike Fox.
• UNC and WCU last met on the diamond in 2007, when North Carolina beat Western Carolina 6-5 to win the 2007 NCAA Chapel Hill Regional. Carolina would go on to beat South Carolina in the super regional round before advancing to the CWS Finals.
• The Tar Heels and Catamounts are meeting for the first time in the regular season since 2000, when UNC won a pair of midweek games in Chapel Hill.
• Western's last win the series came in 1977. The teams split a pair a doubleheader in Chapel Hill, with the Walter Rabb-led Tar Heels winning game one 3-1 before dropping game two 3-2.
RAMIREZ EARNS ACC WEEKLY AWARD
• CF Tyler Ramirez was named ACC Player of the Week following an 8 for 20 week in which the Tar Heels swept past in-state foes East Carolina, Elon and Duke.
• Ramirez hit .400 with two homers and 12 RBIs, had an on-base percentage of .556 and a slugging percentage of .800 for the week.
• The junior from Suffolk, Virginia, reached base 15 times in 27 plate appearances, upping his team-high walk total to 20. Ramirez reached base five times in a game twice on the week, homering and walking three times both at ECU and on Sunday at Duke. He also stole two bases and played errorless baseball in center field with one outfield assist.
