Women's Golf Headed To Stanford For NCAA Regional

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The University of North Carolina women's golf team landed in sixth place with a 17-over 585 after the second day of play in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. Kelly Whaley jumped 20 spots into a tie for 11th place with an even-par 71 round in today's play.

Whaley carded two birdies and one bogey on the front nine and only one bogey on the back nine. Her even-par round contributed to her 3-over-par 145 total. Trailing closely, Lexi Harkins, Bryana Nguyen and Elizabeth Mallett all stand in a tie for 23rd place with a 5-over 147. Harkins and Nguyen each posted a 3-over 74 round, each with one birdie and four bogeys. Mallett posted a 6-over round with one birdie, four bogeys and a double bogey. Leslie Cloots recorded a 5-over 76 score, adding to her 9-over 151 total. Cloots is in a tie for 53rd place heading into the final day of play.

Playing as an individual, Rachel Jones registered a 7-over 78 in the second round for an overall 18-over 160. Jones is 88th place.

Alabama held on to the lead with an 8-over-par 576. Virginia stayed in second in the field of 17 teams with an 11-over 579. Tied for third is Vanderbilt and Oklahoma State with a 14-over 582, and in lone fifth is Georgia with a 15-over 583.

Virginia's Lauren Coughlin and Vanderbilt's Alexandra Farnsworth stay in the lead with a 3-under-par 139. There is a four-way tie with a 1-under 141 between Oklahoma State's Maddie McCrary, Arkansas's Maria Fassi, Duke's Sandy Choi and Alabama's Cheyenne Knight.

The final round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate will begin tomorrow. The Darius Rucker Intercollegiate is being held at the Long Cove Golf Club in Hilton Head, S.C. and features a par 71, 6,243-yard layout. Live scoring for the tournament can be found on Golfstat.com.
