Carolina Hammers Competition At Wolfpack Last Chance

RALEIGH, N.C. – The University of North Carolina track and field teams got one last competition in before the conference meet at the Wolfpack Last Chance. The teams made the best of the last opportunity with solid times and marks across the board.
AJ Hicks had a monster throw of 218-10 (66.71) in the men's hammer to take first overall. It was a lifetime best throw by Hicks and increases his third-place mark all-time at UNC. Hicks now ranks third in the ACC and 18th in the NCAA. On the women's side of the hammer it was Avana Story who had an impressive showing. Story broke her personal record in the event throwing a distance of 200-9 (61.19 meters) to finish second overall. Story's throw now ranks No. 2 all-time in UNC history behind the legendary Laura Gerraughty and is second in the ACC this year. Alex Cooke took third with a lifetime best of 181-8 (55.38 meters) and increased her No. 5 mark all-time at UNC.
Darryl Shaw earned a collegiate victory in the men's triple jump going 49-4 ¼ (15.04 meters).
Ceo Ways clocked in at 46.73 in the 400m to take first place. Typically found running the 800m, Cory Nicholls showed off his diversity going 48.15 in the 400m to take second place.
Caroline O'Hea placed first in the women's 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 10:51.13.
Carolina entered a handful of women into the 1,500m and almost all of them came within a few seconds of their personal best, or beat it. Caroline Alcorta took second at 4:24.36, Josette Norris was third at 4:26.60, Morgan Ilse finished fifth at 4:30.24, Karley Rempel finished seventh at 4:32.32, Hannah Christen finished eighth at 4:34.72 and Mattie Blue was 11th at 4:39.33.
Brandon Reddick finished fifth in the men's 200 at 21.86.
