June 20, 2016 | Softball
OKLAHOMA CITY – Tar Heel upperclassmen Kendra Lynch and Elly Wagner were named All-America Scholar Athletes on Monday as awarded by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). The award is bestowed upon student-athletes who achieve a grade point average of 3.50 or higher during the 2015-16 academic year.
Lynch was a force to be reckoned with in the pitcher's circle this season, setting new Tar Heel single-season records with 53 appearances, 47 starts, 301.1 innings pitched and 33 complete games, while ranking seventh in the nation with 28 wins on the year. A 2016 All-ACC First Team selection and three-time ACC Pitcher of the Week, the junior garners the academic award from the NFCA for the first time in her career after earning a place on the ACC Academic Honor Roll last season.
A true embodiment of the term “scholar athlete,” Wagner has put together the highest cumulative grade point average on the team and takes home her third NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete Award. A member of the 2015 All-ACC Academic Team and two-time ACC Academic Honor Roll recipient, the senior in Business Administration is active on campus and in the community, winning the North Carolina Athletic Director's Scholar-Athlete Award, a Top-10 Scholar-Athlete Award and claiming the title of Leader of Distinction, the highest honor awarded through the prestigious Richard A. Baddour Leadership Academy.
