UNC Gets Late Start To Europe, Enjoys Visit To London
July 30, 2016 | Women's Basketball
The team was scheduled to arrive in Scotland on Friday morning, but storms in the New York area resulted in extended flight delays on Thursday that ultimately resulted in a cancellation. The direct flight out of RDU International took off shortly after 6 p.m. on Friday and landed early Saturday morning in England's grand capital.
The Tar Heels, with the help of their veteran tour guide Leo, enjoyed about seven hours of sightseeing. The first bit of business was a bite to eat at Kings Crossing train station after a 7-hour, overnight flight into London Heathrow.
The team then got back on the bus and headed for the South Bank, took a stroll down the lovely River Thames and then drove through a majority of the South Bank that has gone through gentrification in the last 25 years that has made the neighborhood a sight to behold.
Many warehouses closed after World War 2 came to end back in the 1940s. About 50 years later, investors began sinking money into the region and now is full of trendy apartment buildings, bars and restaurants.

The bus then veered towards Westminster where the team again was able to get out and take photos, this time of Parliament and “Big Ben.”
It was then time to head back to Kings Crossing to grab an express train north to Edinburgh for a 4 1/2 hour ride to Scotland.
Carolina will play its first of three games on the trip on Sunday at 2 p.m. local time in Sterling, a one hour ride from the team's hotel.
