Walker Helps Heels Shoot Down Ireland
August 6, 2016 | Women's Basketball
Walker connected on seven of Carolina's 14 three-pointers as the visitors pulled away for a comfortable victory after a tighter played affair between the two teams just four days ago when UNC won 75-60 in Dublin.
The Irish took an early 6-2 lead, however, three-pointers from Stephanie Watts and Walker highlighted a 15-6 run that put Carolina ahead, 17-12.
Walker would beat the buzzer at the end of the first period to give her eight quick points and her club a 24-14 advantage.
UNC continued to dial from long distance in the second quarter, making four from beyond the arc, including a pair from Cherry that saw the lead swell to 16 points, 33-17 with 7:09 left until halftime.
A beautiful half-court pass from Paris Kea to Hillary Fuller on the break had Carolina up 44-25, before going into intermission with a 49-31 edge over Ireland.
Another triple from Cherry increased the lead to 63-38 in the third quarter, and Walker put a stamp on her performance with back-to-back three's late in the fourth.
Watts had 19 points, followed by 14 from Taylor Koenen, 13 from Cherry and Fuller rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11. Kea added six points and Naomi Van Nes had three points.
North Carolina finishes a perfect 3-0 on its trip through the UK and Ireland. The Tar Heels opened the tour with a 107-54 victory over Scotland Select last Sunday in Stirling, Scotland.
