CHAPEL HILL - The season officially gets underway on Friday afternoon when North Carolina takes on Hampton inside the friendly confines of Carmichael Arena at 3:30 p.m. The game will be streamed on ACC Network Extra and the ESPN app.

SERIES HISTORY
Carolina is 1-0 all-time against Hampton. The only previous meeting took place during the 1998-99 season when the Tar Heels earned a 93-50 win at home over the Pirates.

LAST TIME OUT
Preseason All-ACC guard Paris Kea put her terrific all-around game on display Monday night in leading North Carolina to a 102-47 victory over Mount Olive in an exhibition women's basketball game from Carmichael Arena.

Kea had a game-high 22 points and eight assists, and also hauled in seven rebounds and had six steals in 30 minutes of work. Senior Jamie Cherry and freshman Janelle Bailey each tossed in 16 points with Bailey adding nine boards.

The balanced attack continued with 13 points from Jocelyn Jones and Jaelynn Murray, and 12 more from Taylor Koenen. Murray registered a double-double with 12 rebounds to go with her baker's dozen point total.

FASTBREAK POINTS
• UNC is recieving votes in the Preseason AP Top25 poll, the sixth most among teams with a vote.
• UNC head coach Sylvia Hatchell is only 10 wins shy of 1,000 career victories.
• Paris Kea averaged 20.0 points in the two warmup games, while Jamie Cherry (18.5), Taylor Koenen (15.5) and Janelle Baily (14.0) all averaged in double figures as well.
• Junior guards Paris Kea and Stephanie Watts were named to the Preseason All-ACC Team. UNC joins Duke, Louisville and Notre Dame as the four ACC teams to have multiple players on the preseason team.
• Freshman center Janelle Bailey was selected to the five-player ACC Newcomer Watch List.
• UNC's roster is made up of the eighth most freshmen and sophomores by percentage in the country. The underclassmen account for 10 of the 14 players on the 2017-18 roster.
• Hatchell has compiled the fourth most victories all-time behind Pat Summitt and Stanford's Tara VanDerveer & UConn's Gino Auriemma.
• Standing 6 foot, 6 inches tall, sophomore Naomi Van Nes is the tallest UNC player since 6-6 Waltiea Rolle from 2010-13.
• Stephanie Watts made 81 three-pointers last season, ranking 2nd in the ACC with 3.1 made per game.
• Cherry, Kea and Watts each scored at least 30 points in a game last season.
• Carolina ranked 2nd in the ACC by averaging 8.3 3FG per game last season.
• Paris Kea averaged an ACC-leading 36.1 minutes per game in 2016-17.
• In ACC play, Kea ranked 4th in scoring (18.8 ppg), 8th in assists (3.9) and 8th in steals (2.0) & Cherry was 6th in scoring (16.4 ppg) and 7th in 3FG% (40.0).
• Carolina set a program record with 257 three-point field goals and 801 three-point attempts during the 2016-17 season. The two figures smashed the previous marks of 248 makes in 2005-06 and 719 attempts in 2007.
• Jamie Cherry will play in her 99th straight game in the season opener on Friday against Hampton. She has not missed a game in her collegiate career.
