GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina junior midfielder Marie McCool has been named the ACC Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while Duke freshman goalie Gabbe Cadoux is this week's ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
McCool, who was also named the Epoch/US Lacrosse National Player of the Week, scored a career-high seven goals and tied her career high with eight points in Carolina's 15-11 win at No. 20 Louisville on Saturday afternoon. She scored three consecutive goals to close the first half after the Cardinals had built their biggest lead of the game, 7-3. The Tar Heels then opened the second half scoring seven of the first eight goals, led by three in a row from McCool, to take control of the game and eventually earn the win.
Cadoux totaled double-digit saves for the third time in as many starts in Saturday's 15-12 win at No. 17 Boston College. She made six of her season‐high 11 saves on the day in the second half, helping the Blue Devils outscore the Eagles 9‐4 in that span. With Duke trailing 8‐6 at the intermission, Cadoux opened the second period with stops on two consecutive possessions, allowing the squad to tie the score at eight. Her play down the stretch helped Duke to push the margin to three, setting up the Blue Devil's first ACC victory of the season.
