Tar Heels Top Final Coaches Poll

CHAPEL HILL—The 2017 NCAA champion North Carolina basketball team finished first in the final USA Today Coaches Poll, released following the Tar Heels' 71-65 win over Gonzaga in the NCAA Tournament title game on Monday night in Glendale, Ariz.
Carolina (33-7) received all 31 first-place votes and 775 total points in the voting. National runner-up Gonzaga (37-2) was No. 2.
The rest of the top five was No. 3 Oregon, which lost to the Tar Heels in the national semifinal, No. 4 Kansas and No. 5 Kentucky. Carolina beat Kentucky in the NCAA South Regional final, meaning the Tar Heels beat three of the other four members of the final top five during its NCAA championship run.
No. 6 was South Carolina, No. 7 was Arizona, No. 8 was Villanova, No. 9 was UCLA and No. 10 was Florida.
Other Atlantic Coast Conference teams in the final poll included No. 13 Duke, No. 14 Louisville, No. 20 Notre Dame and No. 24 Florida State.
The Tar Heels were fifth in the final Associated Press poll, release prior to the NCAA Tournament.
