CHAPEL HILL—Carolina Basketball's preseason conditioning program for the 2017-18 season has reached the halfway point, with the 12-minute run in the rear view mirror and the annual Carolina Mile run slated for September 25. Strength and conditioning coordinator Jonas Sahratian and his staff have spent the last two weeks preparing the defending NCAA champions for the start of practice in the first week of October. Two more weeks of running and work in the weight room remain.

• Wes Miller signed a contract extention as UNCG's head coach through the 2021-22 season.
• A writer has named Carolina the top program in the nation over the last 10 years, writing: "Even without the most recent title, the Tar Heels would have been the best program the last 10 years. It's truly impressive how consistent they are."
• The Carolina Basketball Museum is closed for renovations until Sept. 25. The museum is getting a full makeover to incorporate commemorations and videos of the 2017 national title and more.
• The NCAA.com writes that Carolina's 2014-15 freshman class of Joel Berry II, Justin Jackson and Theo Pinson has left its mark on college basketball, writing, "The Jackson-Berry-Pinson class went 13-2 in three years of NCAA tournament games. Do you realize how hard it is for some schools to win one NCAA tournament game? That's an absurd statistic." The 2002-03 Tar Heel freshman class (including current director of operations Sean May) also made the list.
• The Smith Center will be closed from Sept. 28 through Oct. 8 due to the UNC campaign gala in the arena.
