UNC Hosts Jackets On Homecoming Weekend

Carolina returns to Kenan Stadium for just its third home game of the season Saturday when the Tar Heels host ACC Coastal foe Georgia Tech at 12:15 p.m. UNC is 1-6 on the year and 1-4 in the league following a 31-21 loss at Virginia last Saturday. Nathan Elliott passed for 271 yards and two touchdowns to lead Carolina, but Bryce Perkins accounted for three scores to lift the Cavaliers to the victory.
Georgia Tech is 4-4 and 2-3 in conference play after beating Virginia Tech 49-28 in Blacksburg last Thursday night. Tech quarterback Tobias Oliver rushed 40 times for 215 yards and three touchdowns, and the Yellow Jackets did not complete a pass in the blowout win over the Hokies.
Saturday's game will be broadcast on Raycom Sports and locally on WRAL.

CAROLINA-GEORGIA TECH SERIES NOTES
• North Carolina and Georgia Tech are meeting for the 54th time, and the Yellow Jackets hold a 29-21-3 lead in the series.
• Georgia Tech snapped a three-game losing streak in the series last season in Atlanta with a 33-7 victory. The Yellow Jackets rushed for 403 yards and three scores to pace their offensive attack.
• In the last meeting in Chapel Hill, Carolina rolled to a 48-20 victory in 2016. The Tar Heels were led by 168 rushing yards and three scores from Elijah Hood plus 329 passing yards and a touchdown from Mitch Trubisky. Leading just 20-17 late in the second quarter, Trubisky hit Bug Howard for a 68-yard touchdown to spark a 28-3 run to finish the game.
• Prior to last season's setback, Carolina had won three straight in the series for the first time since winning three in a row from 1992-94.
• Over the last six meetings, the two teams have combined for 434 points, an average of 72.3 points per game. In 2012, Georgia Tech beat UNC, 68-50, as the teams combined to score 118 points, a total that was at the time the most in ACC history.
• Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson is a native of Newland, N.C., and he earned his bachelor's degree from Western Carolina in 1979 and a master's degree from Appalachian State in 1982. He began his coaching career at Avery County (N.C.) High School and also coached Lees-McRae Junior College in Banner Elk, N.C.
