Tar Heels Fall To ECU 12-0
February 25, 2018 | Baseball
Chapel Hill, N.C. – After splitting back-to-back one run games on Friday and Saturday, North Carolina lost the finale of the three-game series with ECU, 12-0.
After both pitchers threw three no-hit innings, ECU put the first runs on the board in the top of the fourth thanks to a two-out rally that scored three Pirates. ECU started the rally with back-to-back walks to Spencer Brickhouse and Connor Litton before Chandler Jenkins hit a RBI single to bring home Brickhouse from second. Jake Washer cleared the bases in the next at bat with a two-out triple that bounced off the left field wall for the 3-0 ECU lead.
The Pirates scored three more runs in the sixth and seventh innings to go up 6-0. Washer once again came up big for the Pirates with a single in the sixth inning to score Litton from second base as ECU increased the lead to 4-0 before some Tar Heel defensive miscues saw two more Pirates cross home in the seventh.
ECU tacked on eight more runs over the next three innings to defeat Carolina, 12 to 0.
Rodney Hutchison picked up the loss on the mound for Carolina, his first of the season, after going 3.2 innings and giving up three runs on two hits while striking out four.
Carolina will take the field again on Tuesday as they face High Point University at 3 p.m. ET at Boshamer Stadium.
