Tar Heels Open With Strong Performance At Carolina Cup
March 10, 2018 | Women's Rowing
The UNC rowing team opened spring racing Saturday at the Carolina Cup, facing Duke and Clemson at Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C. The Tar Heels took second overall, finishing with 81 points, behind Duke (99 points) and ahead of the host Tigers (77 points.)
"It was a great day for Carolina Rowing," UNC coach Sarah Haney said. "We saw our entire team compete down the race course every single stroke. Each boat gained more and more confidence through the day – they executed our race plan and did what we asked them to do."
Duke won all five races. The Tar Heels were second in the varsity four and second varsity four, and behind Duke in the two-boat third varsity eight race. Carolina was third in the varsity eight and second varsity eight races, with the 2V8 margin less than a second.
"It was great to see Carolina Rowing represent themselves so well on our opening day of our spring season," Haney said.
Next up for the team is a spring break training week in Lake Lure, N.C.
