About Winthrop
After a weekend series at Campbell, Winthrop (12-12) returns home for a six-game home stand beginning with a doubleheader vs. Coastal Carolina Tuesday and the Tar Heels Wednesday. Morgan Lowers and Ashley Westbrooks leads the team, batting over .300, while Sabrina Shroades holds a team-best 1.78 ERA.
Â
The Series
UNC leads the series, 31-8 with Winthrop taking the most recent meeting, 8-7 on April 19, 2017 in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels and Eagles first met for a doubleheader in Rock Hill, South Carolina with each team winning a game. The two met in the 2007 NCAA Regional in Knoxville, Tennessee with the Tar Heels winning the first contest before the Eagles ended Carolina's season with a 6-3 win. Prior to the 2017 matchup, Carolina won six-straight, sweeping doubleheaders in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
Â
Recently for the Tar Heels
The Tar Heels have won 10 of the past 13 matchups, including a ACC series sweep of Duke, a pair of nonconference wins over USC-Upstate and most recently a 2-1 series win at Notre Dame. Logging her ninth multi-hit game of the season in the series clincher at Notre Dame, Kiani Ramsey leads the team with a .341 average while Leah Murray holds .337 average, scoring a team-high 18 runs with an ACC-best 22 stolen bases. Taylor Wike tops the team leaderboards in doubles (5), home runs (7), slugging percentage (.649), walks (14) and on-base percentage (.434). With a 14-5 record, Brittany Pickett has been dominant in the circle, tossing 166.2 of Carolina's 218.1 innings pitched and picking up four wins March 20-25.

Down Go The Irish
With the series tied at one win each, Sunday's game at Notre Dame was for the all the marbles. Thanks to a five-run third inning, Carolina topped Notre Dame in Friday's series opener for the 7-4 win behind Brittany Pickett's 15th complete game and four RBI off of Kristina Burkhardt. Despite the Carolina leadoff batter reaching in every inning Saturday, Notre Dame capitalized on the Tar Heels' five miscues for the 9-1 win in six innings, evening up the series 1-1. Building on the first two days of competition, it was only fitting that the winner would not be determined until the final inning. With two outs in the top of the seventh, Carolina came out on top in a 1-0 pitchers' duel against Notre Dame to take the series Sunday. Pickett tossed a five-hit shutout with six strikeouts while Berlynne Delamora plated the game-winning run in the final inning for Carolina's sixth ACC win of the season and second series win.
