Tar Heels Wrap Up Conference Play at Syracuse

CHAPEL HILL – Wrapping up a seven-game road trip, Carolina heads to Syracuse for a three-game ACC series Friday through Sunday to conclude conference play in Syracuse, New York.

Friday's game is slated for 4 p.m. while Saturday and Sunday begin at 1 p.m. and noon, respectively. Fans can watch each game of the series on the ACC Network Extra or follow live stats. Â Â

Recently for Carolina
After dropping the series to Georgia Tech, Carolina (27-24, 14-7 ACC) slides to second in the ACC Coastal division with series wins over NC State, Notre Dame and Virginia, and sweeps over Duke and Virginia Tech. Carolina logged its fifth ACC series win over NC State, capping off the series with a Monday night, 8-0 in six innings on ESPNU. The Tar Heels tacked on another win two days later, topping ECU, 4-3 in a back-and-forth contest that was settled by Brittany Pickett's second home run in as many games to total five for the week. Kiani Ramsey leads the team with a .391 average for the season with a team-best 53 hits. With a .354 average, Taylor Wike tops the team leaderboards in several offensive categories: home runs (8), RBI (32), slugging percentage (.611) and on-base percentage (.455). Leah Murray owns a .361 average, leading the team in runs scored (30) and stolen bases (31). With a 25-10 record, Pickett ranks second nationally in victories and fifth in shutouts, tossing two against NC State.

Stealing the Single-Season Record
On April 25 at Liberty, the Tar Heels swiped two bases to reset Carolina's single-season program stolen base record to 107. Averaging 2.10 stolen bases per game to rank 14th nationally, five Tar Heels have double-digit numbers, including league-leading Leah Murray with 31 and Taylor Wike with 18.

Currently on a seven-game winning streak, Syracuse (27-18, 8-11 ACC) wraps up its home slate against the Tar Heels with ACC series wins over Virginia Tech, Virginia and NC State. Bryce Holmgren ranks second in the ACC with a .416 average while Alexa Romero leads the league with 257 strikeouts. Â

UNC leads the all-time series, 8-4 over Syracuse, including the most recent game – an 8-4 win in the ACC Tournament quarterfinal on May 11, 2017 in Chapel Hill. The Orange won the first ever meeting between UNC and SU, 8-4 for a nonconference matchup at the Citrus Classic in Kissimmee, Florida in 2012. Since facing in league play, Carolina leads the series, 7-3 with series wins in 2014 and 2016. However, the series is tied 2-2 in Syracuse.
