CHAPEL HILL – The University of North Carolina men's basketball team will make its first-ever trip to Ann Arbor to play the University of Michigan in the 2018 ACC-Big Ten Challenge.
The Tar Heels and Wolverines will play on Wednesday, Nov. 28th. Tip times and ESPN network assignments will be announced at a later date.
UNC defeated Michigan, 86-71, in the Challenge in the Dean E. Smith Center on Nov. 29, 2017. The Wolverines later advanced to the national title game, where they lost to Villanova.
Carolina is 4-2 all-time against Michigan.
This will be the second time in as many years the schools will play on each other's campus. (1989 Southeast Regional Sweet 16), Honolulu (1992 Rainbow Classic) and New Orleans (1993 NCAA championship game).
Carolina is 10-9 in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge: 5-4 at home, 3-5 on the road and 2-0 at neutral sites. The Tar Heels are 3-2 vs. Michigan State, 1-3 vs. Illinois, 1-3 vs. Indiana, 2-0 vs. Ohio State, 1-0 vs. Maryland, 1-0 vs. Michigan, 1-0 vs. Wisconsin and 0-1 vs. Iowa.
Carolina's 2018-19 non-conference schedule includes: Nov. 6 at Wofford, Nov. 9 at Elon, Nov. 12 vs. Stanford, Nov. 16 vs. Tennessee Tech, Nov. 19 vs. St. Francis (Pa.), Nov. 22-23 in Las Vegas in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational, Nov. 28 at Michigan, Dec. 5 vs. UNCW, Dec. 15 vs. Gonzaga, Dec. 22 vs. Kentucky in Chicago in the CBS Sports Classic, Dec. 29 vs. Davidson and Jan. 2 vs. Harvard.
The four-team field for the games in Las Vegas includes the Tar Heels, Michigan State, Texas and UCLA. The Tennessee Tech and St. Francis games are on-campus games in Chapel Hill that are part of the Las Vegas Invitational.
Carolina's 2018-19 non-conference opponents (and possible opponents) include four teams who finished last season in KenPom.com's top 20 (Michigan State 6, Michigan 7, Gonzaga 10, Kentucky 17), two more that ranked in the top 50 (Texas 36, Davidson 43) and two others in the top 100 (UCLA 56, Stanford 87).
