Media Picks UNC 2nd In ACC Preseason Poll, Anthony & Brooks Preseason All-ACC

CHAPEL HILL—The University of North Carolina is projected to finish second and junior Garrison Brooks and freshman Cole Anthony were named to the preseason All-ACC teams in voting released today by the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Anthony was selected the league's Preseason Freshman of the Year and to the All-ACC first team. Brooks was voted to the league's second team.

Voting was done by media that participated in the ACC's Preseason Media Day in Charlotte on Oct. 8.

Duke is the preseason favorite to finish atop the league's standings, as the Blue Devils earned 51 of 111 first-place votes. UNC was chosen second, followed by (3) Louisville, (4) Virginia, (5) Florida State, (6) NC State, (7) Notre Dame, (8) Syracuse, (9) Miami, (10) Pitt, (11) Clemson, (12) Georgia Tech, (13) Boston College, (14) Virginia Tech and (15) Wake Forest.

The Tar Heels won a share of the 2019 ACC regular-season title with eventual national champion Virginia. It was the ninth time in 16 seasons that UNC won at least a share of the regular-season title under head coach Roy Williams.

The title was Williams' 18th as a head coach, which equals the third most in NCAA history behind Adolph Rupp and Phog Allen.

Anthony, a point guard from New York City, received 89 votes for Freshman of the Year. Duke's Vernon Carey was second with eight votes.
Anthony was also the second-leading vote-getter for Preseason Player of the Year. Louisville Jordan Nwora received 55 votes to 31 for Anthony. They were among six players who received votes for Player of the Year.
Anthony is joined on the preseason All-ACC first team by Louisville's Jordan Nwora, Duke's Tre Jones, Notre Dame's John Mooney and Virginia's Mamadi Diakite.

Brooks, a junior forward from LaFayette, Ala., is joined on the second team by NC State's Markell Johnson, Carey, Miami's Chris Lykes and FSU's Trent Forrest.

Brooks is Carolina's leading returning scorer (7.9 ppg) and rebounder (5.6). He started all 36 games last season.
