Bailey Named To Preseason All-ACC Team
October 16, 2019 | Women's Basketball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – For the second year in a row, North Carolina center Janelle Bailey has been named to the Preseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Team. She's one of 10 standouts named to the 2019-20 squad, announced Wednesday by the league.
"It's great to see Janelle honored in this way," UNC coach Courtney Banghart said. "With two solid seasons under her belt, she's earned the reputation as one of the best players in our conference. It's been fun to coach, encourage and challenge JB to be the best she can be and to watch her lead our young players. She has continued to work hard to get better, stronger, and fitter, and I'm excited to see what her junior season brings."

Bailey, from Charlotte, N.C., is coming off a sophomore season in which she averaged 16.7 points and 8.7 rebounds. A second-team All-ACC selection, she scored in double figures in 29 out of 32 games and was the top scoring front court player in the conference. She reached 1,000 career points in the season's final game against Cal in the NCAA Tournament.
Bailey was honored in voting by both the coaches and the league's Blue Ribbon Panel, which consists of media members and school personnel.
As a team, North Carolina was picked to finish ninth in the league in both the coaches' and Blue Ribbon voting. The Tar Heels, in their first year with Banghart at the helm, open the regular season on Nov. 7 when they host Western Carolina at Carmichael Arena.

"We know we have plenty to prove," Banghart said. "Preseason rankings are never something I get excited or annoyed about. It's about the work done in the season that earns you your final ranking. We're excited to get started."
