TAR HEELS AND HOKIES
• Coming off the first of two open dates in the 2019 campaign, North Carolina plays its second-straight road game at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg on Oct. 19.
• The Tar Heels picked up a 38-22 win in Atlanta over Georgia Tech on Oct. 5 in their last game.
• UNC is 3-5 all-time on the road at Virginia Tech. That includes a 2-5 mark since the Hokies joined the Atlantic Coast Conference for the 2004 season.
• Carolina's last win in Blacksburg was a 30-27 overtime thriller in 2015 that clinched the Coastal Division title. Marquise Williams hit Quinshad Davis with a 5-yard pass in overtime to spoil coach Frank Beamer's final home game at Virginia Tech.
• The series dates back to 1895 when the Tar Heels won 32-5 at a neutral site. In fact, 16 of the first 20 meetings were played at a neutral site with the other four played in Chapel Hill.
• The first meeting in Blacksburg came in 1930, a 39-21 Tar Heel win.
BROWN VS. VIRGINIA TECH
• Mack Brown defeated Virginia Tech, 57-38, back in 1987 during his final season as head coach of Tulane.
• Brown never faced the Hokies during his first stint as head coach at North Carolina, however, the two teams did square off in the Gator Bowl at the end of the 1997 season.
• Brown did not coach the game against the Hokies in the Gator Bowl after leaving for the University of Texas.
VIRGINIA NATIVES
