Two Pro Heels Post Top-10 Finishes Over The Weekend

THE COLONY, Texas AND DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Two former Tar Heels, Katherine Perry and Maia Schechter, earned top-10 finishes on the pro circuits over the weekend.
Katherine Perry, a 2014 Carolina graduate, tied for sixth place with a total score of 274 (-10) at the seventh-annual LPGA Volunteers of America Classic hosted by the Old American Golf Club in The Colony, Texas from Oct. 3-6. Perry's performance marks the highest finish of her career since turning pro in 2017. Highlighted by a low third round, Perry carded 67 (-4), 68 (-3), 66 (-5) and 73 (+2) over the course of the four-day tournament on the par 71, 6,475-yard course.
Earlier this year in May, the Cary, N.C. native tied for ninth at the Pure Silk Championship presented by Visit Williamsburg where she shot an 11-under-par 273.
Maia Schechter, a member of Carolina's 2015 graduating class, tied for eighth place after carding 11-under par at the Symetra Tour Championship in Daytona Beach, Florida also held Oct. 3-6. Schechter finished her four rounds with scores of 69-68-69-71 to total 277 (-11) on the par 71, 6,117-yard LPGA International Jones Course.
Schechter also competed this summer, placing as high as third with a 12-under-par score of 204 (67-70-67).
The next LPGA stop is Buick LPGA Shanghai October 17-20 in Shanghai, China.
