Pickett Named ACC Co-Pitcher of the Week
March 19, 2019 | Softball
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Following an undefeated weekend in the circle, Brittany Pickett was recognized as the ACC Co-Pitcher of the Week honors as announced Tuesday afternoon by the conference office. This is Pickett's sixth ACC weekly honor in her career and second for the Tar Heels in 2019.
Â
Earning a 0.76 ERA in 18.1 innings pitched, Pickett led Carolina to a perfect 4-0 week with a midweek win over No. 8 Georgia and a sweep of Boston College. At Georgia, Pickett limited the top scoring offense in the country to one run on four hits en route to Carolina's second top-10 win of the season. The Indian Trail, North Carolina native struck out a single-game season high of nine – one away from tying her record. She followed suit with her first one-hitter with eight strikeouts against Boston College. On Saturday, Pickett tossed the final two innings of Carolina's fourth shutout of the season to earn her third save and 11th of her career to tie the UNC program record. The junior wrapped up the weekend with a lights out performance to pick up a second one-hitter and clinch UNC's sweep of BC.
Â
Pickett was named Co-Pitcher of the Week with Florida State's Megan King. Louisville's Rebecca Chung and Notre Dame's Cait Brooks were named Co-Players of the Week.
Â
Looking to extend its four-game winning streak, North Carolina hosts Tennessee Wednesday and Georgia Tech Friday through Sunday to wrap up a seven-game home stand.
