Carolina Set For VertKlasse Meeting

HIGH POINT, N.C. - The North Carolina track and field team heads to High Point University for the VertKlasse Meeting at the Dick Vert Stadium from March 22-23.
On Friday, the Tar Heels will make appearances in the men's discus, women's shot put, the men's long jump and both javelin competitions beginning at 10 a.m.
The meet will resume Saturday at 9 a.m. with the men's hammer throw and the 800m heats. Carolina is expected to compete in the women's hammer and women's discus as well as both sections of the pole vault, triple jump and high jump events. On the track, UNC student-athletes will run in the men's 100 meters and both sections of the 200, 400, 4x400 and 4x100.

North Carolina track & field wrapped up their outdoor season opener at the Yellow Jacket Invitational with four event wins.
Redshirt junior and 2018 NCAA indoor champion Nicole Greene made her return debut in the women's high jump, winning the event with a height of 5-11 1/4 (1.81 meters). Her performance earned her Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Field Co-Performer of the Week honors.
Redshirt freshman Madison Wiltrout took the women's javelin title in her first ever collegiate appearance in a Tar Heel uniform. Wiltrout's mark of 168-7 (51.39 meters) just missed the fifth-best all-time throw in UNC history (168-10).
Graduate student Alex Cooke kicked off the Tar Heels' outdoor season on Friday with a first-place finish and a mark of 181-0 (55.18 meters) in the women's hammer.
On the track, Carolina's women's 4x100 — freshman Nicole Barnes, sophomore Peighton Simmons, sophomore Anna Keefer, freshman Lauryn Hall — won a tight race with a time of 45.28.
Other Tar Heels made impressive outdoor debuts. Freshman Emily Malone also had an impressive showing in the women's javelin, throwing 149-4 (45.52 meters) for fourth place and a new personal record by nearly three feet. Sophomore Emerson Porter finished second in the women's pole vault competition, clearing 12-7 1/2 (3.85 meters) in a jump-off for first place, and junior Yaw Sackey threw a personal-best discus mark of 145-0 (44.20 meters).
IN THE RANKINGS
North Carolina holds 10 top-five times/marks in the ACC (including the No. 1 spots in the women's javelin and women's high jump), eight top-20 times/marks in the NCAA East Region and seven top-50 times/marks in NCAA Division I outdoor competition. Nicole Greene is currently tied for first in the nation in the women's high jump and Madison Wiltrout ranks fourth in the NCAA in the women's javelin.
