Ten Tar Heels Score In 19-5 Win At Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, VA.—Jamie Ortega had five goals and two assists and Katie Hoeg had a season-high four goals and four assists as the third-ranked North Carolina women's lacrosse team picked up a 19-5 win at Virginia Tech on Wednesday afternoon.
The Tar Heels improved to 9-2 overall this season and 2-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with the win. Virginia Tech fell to 8-5, 1-2.
Ten Tar Heels scored goals in a balanced offensive attack. Scottie Rose Growney added three goals for Carolina, which also got a goal and an assist from both Kara Klages and Ally Mastroianni.
Gianna Bowe, Tayler Warehime, Elizabeth Hillman, Olivia Ferrucci and Ida Farinholt all scored single goals.
"Today was a good team win against an ACC opponent," Carolina head coach Jenny Levy said afterward. "Our defense played a great game, and we got scoring contributions from 10 different players. Every game presents us with opportunities to build and improve."
The two teams were tied after the first five minutes of the game at 2-2 before UNC went on a 7-1 run to lead 9-3 at halftime. The Tar Heels then scored five of the first six goals after the break to put the game out of reach.
Taylor Moreno started in goal for Carolina and made 18 saves.
