Late Run Leads Notre Dame By Tar Heels, 9-7

Notre Dame, Ind. – Samantha Lynch scored three consecutive second-half goals and led a 4-1 Notre Dame run to beat North Carolina, 9-7, amid snow flurries at Arlotta Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Notre Dame won 11 of 17 draws in the game and improved to 10-2 overall this season, 3-1 in the ACC. Carolina fell to 9-3, 2-2.
It was a well-played defensive game with strong efforts by goalies at both ends. Taylor Moreno (9-3) had 11 saves in the cage for Carolina. Samantha Giacolone (10-1) had 14 saves for Notre Dame.
Katie Hoeg led the Tar Heels with five points on a goal and four assists. Jamie Ortega scored twice and added an assist, and Tayler Warehime scored twice. Gianna Bowe and Ida Farinholt added single goals.
Lynch scored four times for Notre Dame, while Savannah Buchanan had two goals and an assist and Andie Aldave scored twice.
The first half was basically even throughout, and Notre Dame led, 4-3, at halftime. The Tar Heels scored a pair of goals in less than two minutes midway through the second half to take a 5-4 lead and later led, 6-5, with 12:45 remaining. The Fighting Irish then finished the game on a 4-1 run in the final 11 minutes.

• The Tar Heels are in the midst of a three-game road swing that began with a win last Wednesday at Virginia Tech and continues next weekend at Louisville.
