Sam Howell had a solid first drive as a Carolina quarterback. Howell was 4-7 for 51 yards in the first series.
Each of the three quarterbacks saw reps with both the Carolina team and the Tar Heels team during the game.
Jace Ruder showed great touch on a pass to Carl Tucker, who made a defender miss and ran all the way to the 9-yard line for a 77-yard gain, the biggest gain of the day.
Dominique Ross came up with the day's first interception, after the pass tipped off a receiver and another defender's hands.
Sam Howell threw a beautiful ball to Roscoe Johnson for a 42-yard touchdown to get the Tar Heels on the board. Howell showed good touch on both short and long attempts throughout the afternoon.
Storm Duck scooped up a fumble and took it 44 yards the other way for a touchdown. The fumble was forced by Quiron Johnson.
All three quarterbacks saw a decent number of reps in the new air raid offense. Howell went 10-16 for 131 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Ruder went 5-7 for 143 yards. Cade Fortin finished the day 2-6 for 39 yards.
The running backs also got plenty of reps in the new system. Overall, there were 35 rush attempts between the two sides for 89 yards and two touchdowns. Javonte Williams led the way on the ground with six attempts for 51 yards and a touchdown.
The defense was credited with seven sacks, 11 TFLs and four pass breakups on the afternoon.
