UNC Sets New Program Record in Shutout Win over Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Drawing 14 walks in the series opener, Carolina blanked Louisville, 6-0 under the lights Friday night at Ulmer Stadium, while resetting the Tar Heels' single-game walk record in the win.

The Tar Heels capitalized on Louisville's walks for four runs in addition to a passed ball, RBI-single by Megan Dray and a ground ball to Kiani Ramsey. Perfect Carolina defense in addition to eight strikeouts by Brittany Pickett kept the Cardinals off the board for UNC's 14th shutout win.

The series resumes at Ulmer Stadium Saturday at 1 p.m. With the win, UNC improves to 32-15, 16-6 in conference play. Louisville falls to 32-16, 11-8 in conference.

» The Tar Heels jumped to 4-0 lead in the first inning, platting each run with two outs. Dray singled to left for the first run of the inning before Taylor Puetz scored on a passed ball. A pair of RBI-walks upped UNC's score to four before a ground-out ended the inning.
» Following a pair of strikeouts, Louisville's Megan Hensley sent a triple to right. However, Pickett stranded her on third with a strikeout at the plate.
