May 18, 2019 | Women's Tennis
Junior Alexa Graham of the North Carolina women's tennis team has been selected the ITA Carolina Region Player to Watch for the 2018-19 season, announced Saturday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Graham, a native of Garden City, N.Y., is the sixth UNC tennis player to earn the award, joining Jenna Long (2006), Katrina Tsang (2007), Hayley Carter (2014) and current teammates Jessie Aney (2017) and Makenna Jones (2018).
Graham's third season in Chapel Hill has seen her ranked in the top 10 in both singles and doubles since March. She is currently the seventh ranked singles player in the nation and is a member of the No. 2 doubles team in the land with Aney.
Graham is 35-5 in singles throughout the 2018-19 season, and an amazing 24-2 in dual matches. She is 11-2 against top-50 ranked players and 5-1 versus the top 25.
In doubles, Aney and Graham have been nearly unbeatable all season by posting a 23-2 record. That mark includes a 22-2 slate at No. 1 doubles in duals.
Graham will compete in both the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship beginning Monday. Meanwhile, the Tar Heels are still alive in the NCAA Team Championship and will face Stanford Saturday in the semifinals beginning at 2 p.m. at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
The National Player to Watch award winner will be announced on Sunday.
