#4 Carolina Opens ACC Tournament Thursday vs. #5 Louisville

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – With seven ACC series wins and the second-most league wins in program history, #4 North Carolina travels to Tallahassee for the 2019 ACC Tournament. Receiving a first-round bye, the Tar Heels open the tournament against #5 Louisville Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at JoAnne Graf Stadium. Carolina wrapped up ACC play at Louisville with a series win in April.

Senior Leah Murray leads off for Carolina in the order, owning a .344 average with 101 career stolen bases. Fellow senior Kiani Ramsey ranks in the top-100 nationally with 59 hits, a team-best 10 doubles.

Despite a single-game high of 11 strikeouts by Brittany Pickett, the Tar Heels are coming off a 1-3 loss vs. NC Central last Tuesday, April 30. Carolina wrapped up ACC play at Louisville with a seventh conference series win, upping their win total to 17 - the second most in a season in program history.
» The Tar Heels reset the single-game walks record with 14 walks in the series opener. The previous record was 12 three times, most recently in 2009.
» With eight stolen bases throughout the weekend, Carolina upped its season total to 105. Carolina has totaled 100 or more stolen bases in each of the last four seasons.
» Tossing 2.1 innings of relief on Saturday, Brittany Pickett earned her 12th career save to set a new program record. Previously, Lisa Norris picked up 11 from 2006-09.

Six Tar Heels Earn All-ACC Honors
Highlighted by All-ACC first team selections, junior Brittany Pickett and redshirt-sophomore Kristina Burkhardt, six Tar Heels picked up all-ACC honors as announced Tuesday afternoon, voted on by the league's head coaches. Seniors Leah Murray and Kiani Ramsey, and sophomore Megan Dray were named to the all-ACC second team while Hannah George was selected to the All-Freshman team to round out Carolina's honorees. Six Tar Heels earning all-ACC accolades is the most for UNC since 2008.
» Pickett joins Natalie Anter (1999-2002) and Brandy Arthur (1995-98) as the only players in program history to earn first-team All-ACC honors as a freshman, sophomore and junior. Anter and Arthur were also first-team All-ACC selections as seniors.
» Both Murray and Ramsey previously earned All-ACC honors: Murray in 2017 and Ramsey in 2018.

Taking her 33rd pitch at UGA, Berlynne Delamora is now the program record holder in HBP with 35. The senior has also drawn 133 walks to overtake Taylor Wike's program record mark. Senior Leah Murray ranks second in program history with 101 stolen bases. Murray stole three on opening day to tie Christine Knauer's mark. Tiffany Tolleson holds the record with 102. Murray has tallied 219 hits to surpass the prestigious 200 hit mark and rank 8th in program history. Fellow senior Destiny DeBerry ranks is fourth with 78 stolen bases. In the circle, Brittany Pickett overtook Lisa Norris' career saves record with her 12th save vs. Louisville.
The Tar Heels eight ranked wins this season are a new single season program record. Carolina's wins over then-ranked No. 3 Florida State are the first top-five wins in program history. Prior to 2019, the most ranked wins in a season was six in 2010.
