Carolina Announces 2019-20 Schedule

CHAPEL HILL - The North Carolina women's tennis program has announced its 2019-20 season schedule. The perennial national title contender has once again put together another challenging slate for the upcoming school year.Â
Carolina will face no fewer than eight programs that were ranked in the top-25 of last season's final Oracle/ITA national rankings. The list includes No. 4 Duke, No. 8 Vanderbilt, No. 11 NC State, No. 14 Michigan, No. 15 Florida State, No. 20 Miami, No. 21 Virginia and No. 23 Wake Forest.Â
The fall tournament schedule begins the weekend of Sept. 20-22 at the Furman Invitational in Greenville, S.C. The following weekend brings the Oracle ITA Masters Sept. 26-29 in Malibu, Calif.Â
Next up is the Riviera Invitational Oct. 2-6 in Pacific Palisades, Calif., the ITA Women's All-American Championship Oct. 5-13 in Tulsa, Okla., and the ITA Regional Championships Oct. 24-28 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
UNC hosts the Kitty Harrison Invitational Nov. 1-3 at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.Â
The Oracle ITA National Fall Championship closes out the fall tournament season Nov. 6-10 in Newport Beach, Calif.Â
The dual match season begins Jan. 11 with a home doubleheader against Elon and Charleston Southern.Â
Carolina will step back into tournament play with the Freeman Memorial Invitational Jan. 17-19 in Las Vegas.Â
Dual matches begin in earnest Jan. 24-25 during the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels will host Auburn, Columbia and Old Dominion with the winner of the two-day event advancing to the 2020 ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championship that takes place Feb. 7-10 in Chicago.Â
Two of the premier non-conference dual matches of the season takes place at Cone-Kenfield in early February when the Tar Heels host Vanderbilt on Feb. 1 and Michigan on Feb. 2. The Tar Heels will also welcome East Carolina and Charlotte to town for a Feb. 15 doubleheader.
UNC begins ACC play on the road with a swing through Florida to face Florida State on Feb. 21 and Miami on Feb. 23. Carolina's remaining road conference dates feature Wake Forest on March 8, Duke on March 25, Louisville on March 27, Notre Dame on March 29 and Clemson on April 3.Â
The league home opener is against Virginia on Feb. 28. Other ACC home dates include Virginia Tech on March 1, Georgia Tech on March 6, Boston College on March 20, Syracuse on March 22 and NC State on April 10.
The ACC Championship returns to Rome, Ga., April 15-19 at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College. The Tar Heels defeated Georgia Tech, 4-3, the last time it was held their in 2017.
NCAA play begins with first and second round matches May 1-2 on the host campus sites. The NCAA Super Regionals are also on campus sites held May 8 or May 9.
The NCAA Team and Singles and Doubles Championship takes place May 14-23 in Stillwater, Okla.Â
Carolina is coming off another in a long successive streak of impressive seasons by placing third in the final national rankings of the 2018-19 campaign. The Tar Heels, who won the ACC Championship for the fourth year in a row, placed an NCAA-leading five players on the ITA All-America list. Four of those standouts return in the likes of the senior trio of Sara Daavettila, Alexa Graham and Makenna Jones, and sophomore Cameron Morra. Additionally, junior Alle Sanford was a 2017-18 All-American in doubles.
