Tar Heels Kick Off Fourth Year Of Mentoring Program
September 11, 2019 | Softball
UNC softball invites girls in first through sixth grades to join the Tar Heel Lil' Sis program, which is entering its fourth year. Girls who participate in the club are paired with a UNC softball player who serves as a mentor and role model.
Â
The program runs from September through May, with each Tar Heel player sending at least two letters per month to her "Lil' Sis." During the season, club participants are invited to participate in exclusive pregame events and also be recognized on Lil' Sis Day (date TBA).
Â
The cost to participate is $20 per girl, or $15 each for returning members or those who sign up with a friend. In addition to events and camaraderie, club members receive a t-shirt and a team schedule poster.
Â
"The little sis program is a special way to get to know young girls who look up to us on and off the field," junior outfielder Kristina Burkhardt said. "Writing to them reminds me of when I was their age and how important it was to have someone to look up to, so I love being able to be an active and inspirational source for them."
