Tar Heels Gear Up For Mason Rudolph Championship
September 19, 2019 | Women's Golf
CHAPEL HILL - The Tar Heels are back in action this weekend at the Mason Rudolph Championship at Vanderbilt Legends North Course in Franklin, Tenn. From September 20-22, the 15-team field will navigate the intricate and challenging layout of the Tom Kite and Bob Cupp designed par-72, 6,430-yards course.
Â
"It is a pretty open course and has some good length to it," head coach Jan Mann said. "The greens are challenging, but very fair. They're beautiful Bermuda greens and are always in great shape. There are many opportunities for birdies and I feel good about going into the event with the lineup that we have."
Â
The Tar Heels starting five will consist of Krista Junkkari, Nicole Lu, Kayla Smith, Brynn Walker and Ava Bergner.
Â
Last year, the Tar Heels finished tied for seventh at the conclusion of the tournament in Franklin, Tenn. Looking to build upon the first tournament in the 2019-20 season, the Tar Heels are looking to attack on the par-5's in their second event.
Â
"We are a very long team off the tee, we need to use our length to our advantage," Mann said. "We've been working hard on that, and not only about going for the par-5's in two, but also thinking about what yardage we would have left."
Â
The tournament will begin with on Friday morning, with golfers teeing off on holes No. 1 and No. 10 at 8:30. The starting five will begin their first round at 9:05 a.m. on hole No. 10, where Ava Bergner will lead the way.
