Tar Heels Start Season With 7-0 Win Over NCCU

 CHAPEL HILL—University of North Carolina players swept every set and cruised to a 7-0 win over North Carolina Central University on Saturday afternoon at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.Â

The Tar Heels, ranked No. 4 in the nation in the preseason ITA national poll, improved to 1-0 to start the season. NCCU fell to 0-1.

Carolina started quickly and grabbed the doubles point to start the afternoon. Seventh-ranked Mac Kiger and Simon Soendergaard (No. 1 doubles) and William Blumberg and Brian Cernoch (No. 2), both dominated their doubles matches, 6-1. Seniors Ladd Harrison and Josh Peck then beat Amit Baran and Miles Clark at No. 3 doubles, 6-2.

Blumberg (No. 1 singles), Cernoch (No. 2), Peck (ranked No. 82 and playing at No. 3 singles), Kiger (No. 4), Soendergaard (No. 5) and Harrison (No. 6) all won their singles matches in straight sets.
The Tar Heels will return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. at home against Wofford.
