Eight Women's Soccer Players Earn Postseason Awards
November 13, 2020 | Women's Soccer
CHAPEL HILL – After leading No. 1 North Carolina to its 24th ACC regular season championship, eight Tar Heels were named to the All-ACC teams announced Friday by the conference office.
Five Tar Heels were named first-team All-ACC, one was chosen second-team All-ACC, one third-team member, and two Tar Heels were chosen for the ACC All-Freshman Team.
The 2020 All-ACC first-team selections include Maycee Bell, Emily Fox, Rachel Jones, Brianna Pinto, and Claudia Dickey.
Bell makes her first appearance on the list after being tabbed as the 2019 ACC Freshman of the Year. Along with Bell, Fox helped anchor a backline that has surrendered just three goals in 2020. She also added an assist against Virginia Tech on Tuesday. The senior from Ashburn, Va., was named to the first-team for the third successive season. She was named to the third-team after her freshman campaign in 2017.
Rachel Jones and Brianna Pinto each earned first-team honors for the second-straight year. The duo leads the Tar Heel attack with nine combined goals. Pinto leads the squad with five, while Jones ranks second on the team with four.
Dickey has proved to be one of the country's top goalkeepers in 2020. She collected first-team honors for the first time in her career after ending the regular season with six clean sheets, which ranked second in the NCAA. Her current goals-against-average (.300) tops the ACC and checks in at second among goalkeepers across the country.
Senior midfielder Taylor Otto was named to the second-team All-ACC list. The Apex, N.C., native was a third-team selection in 2017 and 2019, and a first-team honoree in 2018. In 2020, Otto scored a goal at Louisville, one that proved to be timely in the Tar Heels' comeback against the Cardinals.
Stepping in to replace the 2019 production of Alessia Russo, Lotte Wubben-Moy and Lois Joel, Carolina's ACC All-Freshman honorees include Sam Meza and Talia DellaPeruta. Meza was also tabbed as a third-team member.
The Tar Heels defeated Virginia Tech 1-0 on Tuesday in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals. They will play Virginia on Friday at 8 p.m. in the ACC Tournament semifinals at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
Carolina is 10-0-0 overall and it won its 24th ACC regular season championship in history with an 8-0-0 mark. The Tar Heels completed a fourth straight ACC regular season without a loss as Carolina has won 38 of its last 41 ACC regular season games.
