Men's Soccer Will Close 2020 Fall Regular Season Vs. Duke

• Fourth-ranked North Carolina will play its final regular season match of the Fall season when it hosts Duke at Dorrance Field on Friday at 8 p.m.
• The Tar Heels are 2-1-2 this season (2-1-2 in the ACC) and are ranked No. 4 this week by the United Soccer Coaches.
• Opening kick is scheduled for just after 8 p.m. The ACC Network will televise the game live.
• The Tar Heels have earned draws in each of their last two outings, 3-3 at Clemson on Oct. 27 and 0-0 at home versus NC State last Sunday (Nov. 1).
• Duke is 2-4 overall this fall, including 2-3 in the ACC. The Blue Devils lost their last outing two weeks ago against Wake Forest. Their scheduled game last weekend against Kentucky was postponed.
• Both teams are slated for a week off next week prior to the ACC Tournament, which will begin with the quarterfinals on Sunday Nov. 15.
Food Drive
• UNC Athletics will be collecting and packing non-perishable food boxes for the Rogers-Eubanks Neighborhood Association (RENA) November and December food distribution. The Rogers-Eubanks Neighborhood is a historically African-American community, and is committed to ending racial and cultural injustice through community involvement, political action and education. The New Rogers Road Community is a diverse community of many colors working together to learn from each other and showing the world that we can indeed "all get along."
• Please help UNC reach its goal of packing 500 meal boxes in November and December by donating non-perishable food items at all November & December UNC Athletic Sporting Events. Drop-boxes will be located at the main entrances.
Series History Vs. Duke
• Carolina leads the all-time series with Duke, 48-36-10. UNC has won six of the last seven meetings in the series and is 13-2-2 in the last 17 meetings.
• Earlier this season, UNC shutout the Blue Devils in Durham, 2-0, behind a strong night by UNC goalkeeper Alec Smir.
• In 2019, Duke beat Carolina, 3-2, in Chapel Hill.
• Prior to the loss to Duke in Chapel Hill in 2019, Carolina had won five in a row in the series and were 12-1-2 in the last 15 meetings (since 2007). The lone UNC loss during that stretch came in 2014 in Durham.
Tar Heels Beat Duke in Durham
• Carolina wasted no time in striking early and got strong play in goal from junior Alec Smir as the Tar Heels beat Duke, 2-0, on Oct. 2 in Durham, N.C.
• UNC recorded four shots on goal on the night, two of which found the back of the net.
• Both of the goals came on set plays. Matt Constant scored on a header off a free kick in the first half from Milo Garvanian, and Santiago Herrera scored on a free kick in the second half.
• Duke out-shot Carolina on the night overall, 9-6, but the Tar Heels had four on-goal to Duke's three.
• Smir posted a strong effort, saving all three of Duke's shots on goal, including a punch save on a short range shot in the second half to preserve a 1-0 lead.
UNC And NCSU Tie, 0-0
• Fifth-ranked North Carolina and North Carolina State clawed and fought for 110 minutes at Dorrance Field on Nov. 1, but neither team was able to score in a defensive struggle that ended in a 0-0 tie in two overtimes.
• The Tar Heels (2-1-2, 2-1-2 ACC) had a handful of good scoring opportunities, particularly in the first overtime period when Jonathan Jimenez and Joe Pickering both had shots that hit the NCSU (0-5-1, 0-4-1) goalpost. Neither found the back of the net, however, and the game ended in a scoreless tie.
• UNC's defense stymied NCSU's attack for much of the afternoon, limiting solid looks at the goal by attackers.
