No. 9 Tar Heels Chase 300th Home Win On Saturday

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina men's lacrosse team will seek the 300th home win in program history on Saturday afternoon when the Tar Heels meet the Lafayette Leopards at noon at Dorrance Field in Chapel Hill, N.C.
No. 9 North Carolina is 2-0 with a 19-6 win over Colgate and a 14-6 victory against Mercer. Since beginning the 2020 season, a number of Tar Heels have received individual accolades. On Thursday, junior attackman Chris Gray and senior midfielder William Perry were selected to the 2020 Tewaaraton Award Watch List. Gray previously received ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors following a six-point performance against Colgate on February 1. Sophomore goalkeeper Caton Johnson earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors with his nine saves against Colgate to help the Tar Heels secure a sweep of the first round of weekly conference honors.
The Lafayette Leopards dropped their first two matches of 2020 to No. 1 Penn State, 9-16 and No. 16 Georgetown, 3-17. Head coach Patrick Myers is in his second year with Lafayette after previously serving as associate head coach at Penn. Prior to Penn, Myers spent six seasons with the Tar Heels from 2009-14, the last of which he spent as associate head coach.
The Tar Heels won the first matchup between the two programs, 17-10 in their 2018 season opener.
The game will be the third of three successive home games for the Tar Heels to be played at Dorrance Field. North Carolina will hit the road for three-straight weekends, facing Johns Hopkins on February 22, Denver on March 1 and Furman on March 6.
RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE
North Carolina men's lacrosse is dedicated to its community outreach in Chapel Hill. In the game against Lafayette, the Tar Heels will be wearing Carolina blue and white "bo-bo" socks as part of their fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House in Chapel Hill.
Members of the team collected donation items at the Carolina softball game versus Campbell and prepared treats for the families at RMH on Wednesday. The team will be collecting donation items again on Saturday and bo-bo socks will be available to those who make a donation of $15 or more.

The University of North Carolina men's lacrosse team secured its second-straight home game victory on Saturday, defeating Mercer University, 14-6 at Dorrance Field.
Sophomore Nicky Solomon stole the show with a career-best performance over the Bears, tallying six points with two goals and a career-high, four assists. Junior Chris Gray had another impressive performance in Carolina blue, racking up five points with a goal and a season-best four assists, while seven other Tar Heels contributed to Carolina's final score.
Carolina's 2-0 start marks the eighth time in the last 10 seasons that the Tar Heels have opened with back-to-back wins. The Bears drop to 1-1 despite multi-point performances by Sean Goldsmith, Nick Rockfeller, Michael Quinn and Will McCarthy.

Carolina faced Lafayette for the first time in program history when the Tar Heels bested the Leopards, 17-10 in its 2018 season opener.
Carolina will also host the Ronald McDonald House in Chapel Hill for RMH Day at Saturday's game against Lafayette. Fans with a donation item will receive a pair of Carolina blue and white socks.

» Brian Cameron, Nicky Solomon and Chris Gray all tallied two points in the first quarter against Mercer. Both Cameron and Solomon each had one unassisted goal while Gray connected once with each to bring Carolina's goal total to four at the end of the period.
» Four different goal scorers helped Carolina pull away in the second quarter. Gray added two assists to his performance, connecting first with Tanner Cook and then with Alex Trippi. Cook scored his second goal of a hat-trick performance within 40 seconds of his first while Ryan O'Connell put up his first goal of the season and freshman Alex Breschi got the first goal of his collegiate career on an assist from Nicky Solomon.
