Heels Secure Two Home Wins To Remain Perfect In 2020

CHAPEL HILL - The No. 1 North Carolina women's tennis team secured two 4-0 victories over ECU and Charlotte on Saturday at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. In between the two matches, Carolina's seniors - Sara Daavettila, Alexa Graham and Makenna Jones - unveiled the 2020 ITA Indoor National Champions banner before a crowd of fans and program supporters.

In the first match of the day against ECU, the opening doubles point was decided on court three with freshman duo Kacie Harvey and Anika Yarlagadda defeating their opponents, 6-2. This came just moments after Cameron Morra and Elizabeth Scotty triumphed on court one, 6-1.
No. 23 junior Alle Sanford was the first to secure a singles win on court three with a dominating 6-4, 6-0 victory over Michelle Ncube. Sanford was down, 1-3, in her first set, but impressively regained the lead and won her first set, 6-4. Scotty earned the following point on court two with a 6-3, 6-0 victory.

To secure the Tar Heel win over ECU, Sophia Patel conquered on court six, 6-4, 6-2. Although Harvey and Morra did not finish, they both won their second sets in a landslide after losing their first sets, 6-1.

Onto to the second match of the day against Charlotte, Makenna Jones and Harvey grabbed the doubles point to advance Carolina's score to 1-0 over the 49ers.

No. 4 Daavettila pushed Carolina's lead even further during singles play, 2-0, with an impressive pair of 6-0 wins on court two. Shortly after, No. 23 Sanford was victorious over Pierina Imparato on court four, 6-1, 6-2. To clinch the win, No. 7 Graham defeated her opponent on court one, 6-2, 6-1.

The Tar Heels (12-0) will travel to Florida next weekend to play No. 4 Florida State on Feb. 21 and Miami on Feb 23.
