No. 21 James Madison Outlasts Carolina, 6-3

CHAPEL HILL – Despite a two-run home run by Kristina Burkhardt in the seventh inning, No. 21 James Madison prevailed for the 6-3 win over North Carolina on Wednesday evening in Chapel Hill.
James Madison set the tone early with two runs on four hits in the first inning. However, starting pitcher Alyssa Stanley settled in and struck out a career-high, five batters. At the plate, Stanley drove in Carolina's first run before Burkhardt's home run finalized UNC's score at three. Scattering 14 hits throughout the game, the Dukes score two runs apiece in the first, fourth and seven innings to earn the mid-week win.
Carolina sits at an even 6-6 record while James Madison improves to 3-1 on the season.

» Despite first-pitch called-strikes to each batter faced in the first, JMU began the game with a four-straight singles, scoring on a Carolina miscue and an RBI-single by Hannah File.
