Top Storylines
• Carolina takes the road for the first time this season in the CambriaCollegeClassic. The trip is the furthest trip for the Tar Heels in the regular season, traveling 1,193 miles to U.S. Bank Stadium.
• The Tar Heels are 1-1 against Minnesota, 1-0 against Iowa and 8-1 against Purdue in each of the school's all-time meetings.
• Carolina has won three of its last four first road series. From 2016-2018, the Tar Heels won three-straight, before falling to Clemson in 2019 on the first road trip of the 2019 campaign.
• Max Alba made his first career start in Tuesday's win over North Carolina A&T. He tossed 5.0 innings and struck out six in his debut.
• Last weekend, the Tar Heels dropped two out of three to Dallas Baptist, their first losses of the 2020 campaign. After taking the first game 9-0, Carolina fell 6-3 and 3-0.
• Angel Zarate has been incredible in his last five games, hitting .375 and slugging .550 while collecting two doubles and seven RBI.
• In the series finale on Sunday, Carolina committed a season-high four errors. The Tar Heels had a chance to tie the game in the eighth inning, down 2-0, with runners on second and third, but a line drive down the right-field line was caught.
• Joey Lancellotti earned his second win of the season on Friday night against the Patriots. He tossed seven innings and recorded seven strikeouts, which were both career highs.
• Austin Love put together a strong performance on the mound in relief on Sunday. He threw 5.2 innings, fanned a career-high nine batters and retired the first 10 batters he faced.
• North Carolina has outscored opponents 63-18 in the first eight games of the season.
• The Tar Heels have started a freshman at catcher in nine eight games, led by Eric Grintz with five starts, Will Stewart with three and Kyle Smith with one.
