CHAPEL HILL - Top ranked North Carolina dispatched Virginia Tech on Sunday afternoon by a 4-0 scoreline to remain unbeaten this season from Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
North Carolina (16-0, 4-0 ACC) received singles wins from Anika Yarlagadda, Sara Daavettila and Alexa Graham to extend its home winning streak to 32 straight matches.
Daavettila's win was her 125th singles victory of her career, the sixth most in program history.
The doubles point went to the Tar Heels for the 16th time in 16 dual matches. Cameron Morra and Elizabeth Scotty snapped a mini two-match losing streak with a dominating 6-1 win on court three. Shortly after, No. 4 Daavettila and Alexa Graham sealed the point with a 6-2 win on court one.
Virginia Tech slips to 7-5 overall and 0-5 in the conference.
Before the match, Carolina honored the life of Wynn Burrus, a 21-year-old senior at UNC, who left this world much too soon when she unexpectedly passed away this past September. A Morehead-Cain scholar and member of the Kappa Delta Sorority, Burrus held multiple roles within UNC Student Government and was set to graduate this May from the prestigious Kenan Flagler Business School with a degree in business administration.
Burrus was an avid junior tennis player and captained the Broughton High School tennis team in Raleigh. For this, her senior year she created a UNC Bucket List and on that list was a desire to attend a Carolina tennis match.
Carolina remains home to host No. 10 Georgia Tech next Friday at 3 p.m.
