#1 UNC Takes Out #8 Yellow Jackets, 6-1

CHAPEL HILL - North Carolina played one of its most complete matches of the season on Friday against visiting Georgia Tech. The top-ranked Tar Heels won all six first sets in singles play and went on to win 6-1 over the eighth ranked Yellow Jackets from a cool and windy Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
The win lifts Carolina to 17-0 on the season and remains atop the Atlantic Coast Conference standings with a 5-0 mark. Georgia Tech falls to 14-6 and 4-2 in the league.
Doubles play set the tone with UNC winning on courts two and three by identical 6-2 score lines to grab an early 1-0 lead.
Freshman No. 89 Elizabeth Scotty returned to the singles lineup and improved to 9-0 in her rookie campaign with a resounding 6-4, 6-2, win over Nami Otsuka.
No. 6 Cameron Morra immediately followed Scotty's win with a 6-2, 6-0, victory on court two to extend the lead to 3-0.
No. 5 Sara Daavettila earned the clincher when her opponent, No. 123 Gia Cohen retired midway through the second set with the Tar Heel senior leading 6-3, 3-2.
No. 51 Alle Sanford and No. 52 Makenna Jones followed soon thereafter with straight set wins on courts five and six, respectively, to round out the Tar Heels singles victories.
UNC hits the road to face No. 14 Wake Forest on Sunday at noon in Winston-Salem, N.C.
