George’s Career Day Guides Carolina Over Syracuse, 3-2

CHAPEL HILL – Sophomore Hannah George threw a two-hit gem to pace Carolina to the 3-2 win over Syracuse on Friday evening in Chapel Hill. The right-hander struck out a career-best, eight batters, limiting the Orange to one earned run for the win in the series opener.
A two-hit performance by Abby Settlemyre, highlighted by her first home run of 2020, pushed the Tar Heels ahead of Syracuse who scored its runs on a pair of RBI-doubles. A one-run single by Campbell Hutcherson in the third and RBI-walk by pinch hitter Zoë Goodman steadied UNC's offense for its third-straight win.
Carolina improves to 9-11, 3-1 in ACC play while Syracuse falls to 8-10, 0-1 in conference. The series resumes Saturday at 1 p.m. at Anderson Stadium.
