Breaks 72-Hole Tourney Record
Austin Greaser, a freshman men's golfer at the University of North Carolina in 2019-20, shot a tournament record 18 under par over 72 holes to win the 2020 Ohio Amateur championship contested the last four days at the Columbus Country Club.
The Vandalia, Ohio, native bested the previous Ohio Amateur record by two strokes. Ben Curtis set the mark at 16 under in 2000, when he won the second of his consecutive Ohio Amateur titles.
Greaser had two top-six finishes for the Tar Heels last season (second at the Turning Stone Invitational in Verona, N.Y., and sixth at Notre Dame).
He won the 114th Ohio Amateur by eight strokes. Bryce Haney of Huber Heights, Ohio, was second at 10 under.
Greaser made eight birdies and only one bogey for a 7-under-par 65 in Tuesday's opening-round and followed with 69-66-70 over the next three days to finish at 18 under 270. He made 19 birdies, two eagles and bogeys over the four rounds. He led by nine strokes heading into today's final round.

The flat stick really worked for me this week," says Greaser. "I putted really well all week and took advantage of some good opportunities I gave myself with my iron shots. I drove it well, too. I hit a lot of fairways which gave me the chance to attacks the pins."
