Celebrate Carolina: Jordan in Carmichael

In this week's Celebrate Carolina feature, we take a look back at the proud history of Carmichael Arena, current home of the UNC women's basketball program and former home of arguably the greatest player in the history of the game. Michael Jordan played his entire Carolina career – three seasons: 1981-82, 1982-83 and 1983-84 – in Carmichael (which was then known as Carmichael Auditorium).

Jordan was the 1984 National Player of the Year and Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year as well as a two-time consensus first-team All-America selection (1983, 84). He helped the Tar Heels to the 1982 NCAA Championship and scored in double figures in 90 of 101 games for UNC.

The Tar Heel men's basketball team compiled an amazing 169-20 record at Carmichael before moving to the Dean E. Smith Center in January of 1986.
