September 29, 2020 | Women's Soccer
CHAPEL HILL – After leading No. 1 North Carolina past No. 7 Duke 2-0 on Sunday, Izzy Brown and Maycee Bell were named ACC Offensive Player of the Week and ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, the league announced today.
The award is Brown's first and Bell's third, after collecting a pair of ACC Defensive Player of the Week awards in 2019.
Brown's offensive prowess was on full display against the Blue Devils when she put away a cross from Aleigh Gambone to put the Tar Heels up 2-0 in the 44th minute of Sunday's action. She had another opportunity in the second half with a header, but the Duke goalkeeper made the save.
Bell anchored a back line that earned its second scoreless victory of the season. She was a force the entire match, constantly fending off Duke's offensive attack. The Wichita, Kan. native's presence was felt on the offensive end of the field as well, where she was involved in a scrum that resulted in a Duke own-goal.
The top-ranked Tar Heels play host to No. 3 Clemson on Thursday (Oct. 1) at 4 p.m. in Chapel Hill.
