Tar Heels Sign Standout Guard
November 10, 2021 | Women's Basketball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina women's basketball team is adding a standout guard to its arsenal with the signing of Paulina Paris to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday, the first day of the signing period.
Paris, a 5-7 guard from New City, N.Y., will join the Tar Heel squad in the summer of 2022.
"It's a really exciting day for our program as we add Paulina Paris to the Carolina family," said UNC coach Courtney Banghart, who has signed exceptional classes in each of her previous two falls in Chapel Hill. "Paulina is one of the nation's elite perimeter threats. Her competitiveness, toughness, and ability to score at all three levels makes her a great add to our program. In addition, she is a gym rat and will continue to raise the level of her game throughout her career in the Carolina blue. We are all so glad she's a Tar Heel."
Paris is currently ranked 27th overall in the class of 2022 and seventh at her position by espnW HoopGurlz.
The daughter of Bryan Paris, a former member of Puerto Rico's National Team, and Melissa Paris, she is a junior at Saddle River Day School. A two-time Rockland County Player of the year. She has averaged 20+ points in all three of her high school seasons so far, with 21.3 points per game as a freshman, 25.4 as a sophomore and 24.6 as a junior in 2020-21, when she was named All-Bergen County. She has already passed the 1,000-career-points mark and heads into her senior season with a total of 1,361.
Coached by Danny Brown at Saddle River and Keith Gilchrist with her club team, New Jersey Sparks EYBL, Paris has been named MVP of both the Omni Classic and the Philly Face-Off.
Paris cited both the Carolina program and the University in choosing to continue her academic and athletic career at North Carolina. "I chose UNC because of the family atmosphere I felt when I visited and the winning culture," she said.
The Tar Heels are 1-0 this season following a season-opening 92-47 win over North Carolina A&T on Tuesday. Next up is a road game at Charlotte on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
